Your After-Baby Body

Mommy Makeover San Diego, CAHaving a baby is an amazing, rewarding experience. Of course, you may not feel that way in a couple years when said child is rolling about on the floor of the candy aisle at Von’s after you rejected his demand for some candy.

And your body may not be exactly happy with the whole process, either. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are tough on a woman’s body. Breasts that were firm and high now sag and droop. A tummy area that was relatively tight now sports a little pooch. And fat pockets have developed here and there, remnants of your baby weight that now seem to have taken up permanent residence.

But a mommy makeover with Dr. Kearney is a way to regain the figure you had before you had your child…and maybe then some.

What is a mommy makeover?

Mommy makeovers with Dr. Kearney target the areas of the body affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Every patient’s needs are unique and we work with you to customize the areas you want to address. A mommy makeover typically involves a breast lift with or without augmentation, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Who could benefit from a mommy makeover?

Just about anyone who has had a child could benefit to some degree from a mommy makeover. It’s inevitable that you’ll have stretched abdominal skin and possible separated muscles, breasts that have lost volume and flattened, and areas of fat that seem immune to any exercise you try to address them with.

These are the issues that a mommy makeover with Dr. Kearney addresses.

Before you call us to schedule your surgery, however, you need to know one thing — you’re not going to have any more children. All the gains you make with Dr. Kearney’s surgical expertise will be negated by another pregnancy. Also, you should have lost most if not all of your pregnancy weight and have been at a stable weight for a few months.

Mommy makeover procedures

  • Tummy tuck — The goal in a tummy tuck is to lose the pooch that has developed in your lower abdomen and regain a firm, sculpted tummy.  Dr. Kearney makes one incision at the bikini line and possibly a second at the belly button. He will also bring back together stomach muscles that have been separated, and trim excess skin.
  • Liposuction — For our mommy makeovers, he will likely use some liposuction during your tummy tuck, plus he may target other areas such as the upper thighs with stand-alone liposuction. Tiny incisions are made, a saline solution (combined with anesthetic and adrenaline) is injected, and then a cannula is inserted to suction out the unwanted fat pockets.
  • Breast lift — Sagging breasts that have lost volume are an almost universal complaint after childbirth and breastfeeding. Our goal with your breast lift is to return the breasts to a higher, firmer position on the chest. Excess skin will likely be trimmed and the nipple complex probably moved higher. If you seek to add volume, or maybe simply to increase your breast size, Dr. Kearney can add implants to your breast lift. Adding implants during a breast lift is simple, as the incisions are already made.
