Now that we’re turning the corner into late fall and winter, this is a great time to give your skin a boost. Dr. Kearney has numerous treatments that improve your skin. One our patients really love uses radiofrequency energy to tighten and improve the skin. It’s called Fractora. Fractora is the most advanced fractional radiofrequency treatment available to treat sun damaged, aging skin and acne scarring.
What is Fractora?
Fractora is a new alternative to fractional laser skin resurfacing. In fractional resurfacing, the laser energy creates hundreds of microscopic channels down through the epidermis across the treatment area. The laser energy then enters and heats the dermis, the skin’s second layer. This triggers the wound response that so many different aesthetic treatments seek, where new collagen and elastin are produced by the body to heal the perceived wound. This tightens and firms the skin. The problem with laser fractional resurfacing has always been downtime. Patients can have to endure enduring redness and in those with darker skin tones there has been a risk of hyperpigmentation.
Fractora is fractional skin resurfacing, but instead of laser energy, radiofrequency energy is delivered into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. The Fractora handpiece has two choices of heads: a small head with 20 pins or a large head with 60 pins. These pins create the microscopic channels of up to 1mm through the epidermis. As the pins penetrate the epidermis, each pin tip delivers bipolar radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis. This creates the same wound response without the more involved recovery demanded by fractional laser resurfacing.
What skin issues can Fractora be used to improve?
Fractora is effective on a wide range of aging skin problems:
- Fine lines
- Deep lines
- Texture problems
- Acne scars
- Uneven pigmentation
- Broken blood vessels
- Areas of redness
How Fractora improves your skin
Fractora rejuvenates the skin in two ways. First, it creates hundreds of microscopic channels in the skin that immediately begin a healing process that improves the skin, breaking down texture problems. Second, it delivers radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis layer of the skin, without having to go through the skin, as laser energy does with fractional laser treatments.
