Want to Dump Your Double Chin for 2020?

We all like to think that everyone else looks like Orson Welles or Chris Christie when it comes to a little extra business going on under our chins. Reality? Most of us have some accumulated fat under our chin, creating that annoyance known as a double chin.

Want to feel better? Call it submental fullness. That’s the clinical term for “double chin.”

Considering how prevalent they are, it’s kind of interesting that the aesthetic industry has paid so little attention to this area of the body. Short of surgery — a facelift or neck lift — there’s really been little else you could do to get rid of a double chin.

Now that has changed with Kybella®, a prescription medicine available from Dr. Kearney at his San Diego practice. Kybella® is the prescription brand name for an injection formulated with deoxycholic acid that dramatically improves the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin, the proverbial double chin.

Survey says

Double chins are not unique. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery conducted a survey in 2015 and found that 67% of people said they’re bothered by a double chin. Most of those people found their double chin to be as irritating as their wrinkles and sagging skin elsewhere.

Kybella® goes after the fat

A couple years back double chins found that there was a new sheriff in town. Whereas surgery formerly was the only way to remove fat under the chin, Kybella was developed as an injectable, non-invasive alternative. When the FDA approved Kybella® it became (and still is) the only injectable treatment to improve the appearance and profile of a double chin.

The basis of Kybella® is deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body whose job is to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® (and its deoxycholic acid) destroys the fat cells. After those cells are gone, there is no longer a storage mechanism to accumulate fat in the area. So your double chin shouldn’t return!

Multiple treatments yield the best results

Dr. Kearney customizes his Kybella® treatments for every patient. Some patients see the results they want after two to four treatments; others require six (the FDA maximum allowed). The number of treatments will depend on the amount of fat stored under your chin, along with your desired final profile. Each treatment is spaced four weeks apart.

Patients can have some swelling, particularly after the first Kybella® injection session. This is a sign that the deoxycholic acid is attacking the fat.

You don’t need that double chin to be a part of your 2020 life. Call Dr. Kearney and set up a Kybella® treatment to get started removing it, (858) 677-9352.
