Better IPL with Lumecca

IPL Laser San DiegoYou’ve probably heard of Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Similar to laser energy, IPL is different because it delivers a wider bandwidth of light energy than the single bandwidth delivered by lasers. This allows IPL to treat a wider variety of skin issues at one time.

But Dr. Kearney doesn’t like to walk in place — he likes to keep moving his La Jolla practice forward. That’s why we’ve added treatments such as Facetite and Bodytite from Inmode to our treatment list.

Inmode’s latest is an IPL treatment called Lumecca. Lumecca is the newest generation of IPL technology to treat pigmented skin and vascular lesions. Lumecca delivers the most powerful IPL energy available today, which makes it more effective than earlier iterations of IPL.

At Dr. Kearney’s, we’re excited at the improvements Lumecca is making for our patients’ age and sun spots, broken capillaries, and other skin issues.

What is Lumecca?

Lumecca treats these skin problems with what is known as photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through completely comfortable light energy. Because Lumecca delivers a stronger level of light energy it is able to provide better removal of darkened spots and areas on the skin, along with effective removal of broken surface capillaries.

What is Lumecca used to treat?

We use Lumecca for sun damage, hyperpigmentation, freckles, aging skin, broken blood vessels, rosacea, melasma, and brown spots.

What happens after a Lumecca session?

There isn’t any recovery after our Lumecca sessions. Your skin may be slightly red and feel slightly warm immediately after your treatment, but this passes in an hour or so.

Immediately following your treatment and over the next day or two, your spots and pigmented areas will actually darken. This is a sign that the melanin in the pigmented areas has absorbed the IPL energy. The energy has actually fractured the melanin and the body will break it down. On the surface skin, the spots will darken and then peel off, evening skin tone.

For vascular lesions, the vein will usually blanch immediately or it may darken. But the IPL energy has heated the blood in the vein, causing the walls to collapse, closing off the vein. The body will scavenge and remove what’s left over the next couple of weeks.

You’ll be amazed at the improvements in your skin with Lumecca. Call us at (858) 677-9352 to set up a consultation.
