Mommy Makeovers — Losing the Pooch

Mommy MakeoversBecoming a mother can be one of life’s most satisfying times. Well, maybe not when your two-year-old is throwing a tantrum in the grocery store, but most of the time!

But no one asked your figure what it felt about the whole deal. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can be tough on a woman’s body. Breasts that were firm and high now sag and droop. A tummy area that was relatively tight now sports a little pooch. And fat pockets have developed here and there that don’t listen to any exercise you throw at them or any diets you seek to starve them with.

Maybe it’s time for a mommy makeover with Dr. Kearney to regain some of those attributes to your figure that pregnancy and childbirth seem to have taken away.

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is the term that denotes a combination of procedures that address the areas of the body most affected by pregnancy, breastfeeding, and childbirth. Every patient’s needs are different, but Dr. Kearney works with you to customize the areas you want to address. A mommy makeover typically involves a breast lift with or without augmentation, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Who could benefit from a mommy makeover?

If you’ve had a child or children and now find that your abdominal skin and muscles are stretched and loose, if you have fat deposits in certain areas of the body such as your thighs, and if your breasts are sagging and have lost volume — those are all conditions that are excellent for a mommy makeover.

What is important, however, is that you know you are not going to have any more children. This is because any changes made by your mommy makeover will be negated by another pregnancy. Also, you should have lost most if not all of your pregnancy weight and have been at a stable weight for a few months.

The procedures

  • Tummy tuck — The goal in a tummy tuck is to regain a firm, sculpted lower and mid-abdomen area. Dr. Kearney makes one incision at the bikini line and possibly a second at the belly button. Then he tightens underlying muscles and trims excess skin before reattaching the skin in a tighter contour.
  • Liposuction — This minimally invasive procedure can be stand-alone, or in combination with your tuck. Tiny incisions are made, a saline solution (combined with anesthetic and adrenaline) is injected, and then a cannula is inserted to suction out the unwanted fat pockets.
  • Breast lift — A breast lift returns the breasts to a higher, firmer position on the chest. Excess skin will likely be trimmed and the nipple complex probably moved higher. A lift can be accompanied by augmentation to regain lost volume or to increase size.
