Fraxel Your Way to Younger Skin

Laser Skin Treatments San Diego Living in sunny San Diego, we all show the effects of the sun on our skin. While we equate age spots with the sun, the sun’s also responsible for many of our fine wrinkles and loosening skin. Dr. Kearny uses the Fraxel Laser to help remove some of those damaged spots in a gentle, non-invasive procedure.

Fraxel is a laser therapy that delivers a wide array of treatment options to address many forms of aging, with only minimal recovery time. It’s a great solution for helping your facial skin without surgery.

What is the Fraxel Laser effective on?

Fraxel Lasers are well known for their success in the aesthetic world. Here’s what Dr. Kearney treats with Fraxel:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surface scarring from acne or injury
  • Pigmentation issues such as melasma
  • Sun damage such as brown spots
  • Actinic keratosis spots

How it works

Fraxel originated fractional lasers. Their laser energy penetrates the epidermis down into the dermis layer of the skin. Once below the dermis, the laser energy converts to heat where it triggers a wound healing response from the body. This response is to produce new collagen and to resurface the epidermis to address the “wound.” This natural rejuvenation process smoothes wrinkles and scars by building new collagen beneath them. Collagen is responsible for the skin’s support structure, but sun damage and natural aging decrease its production over time.

Dr. Kearney’s Fraxel treatments take only between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on your treatment area. Since the process triggers skin tightening and collagen remodeling, your results aren’t immediate. Most of our patients note improved skin in from one to three weeks that continues to improve from there.

How it feels afterwards

Fraxel treatments will generally make your skin feel as if you have a light sunburn afterwards. This only lasts for a day or two. There can also be some minimal swelling.
