Diolaze Shows Unwanted Hair Who’s the Boss

At our San Diego practice, we’re always trying to stay at the forefront of the latest technology. Your unwanted hair won’t like that we’ve included laser hair removal with our upgrades. Dr. Kearney has added the Diolaze XL laser for hair removal for our San Diego patients.

What is Diolaze XL?

Diolaze is the first laser to combine high peak power, optimal pulsing, and the largest spot size simultaneously. That’s bad news for unwanted hair. Diolaze is powerful enough to target and treat the most stubborn hair, and it does so with ultimate patient comfort.

How is Diolaze different from other hair removal lasers?

Diolaze has some specifics that set it apart:

  • Built-in 3-way skin cooling make Diolaze more comfortable.
  • Requires fewer treatments than with other lasers.
  • Can be used with most skin types.

Who’s having laser hair removal?

Year in and year out, laser hair removal is the most popular non-injection cosmetic treatment performed in the United States, ranking just behind dermal filler injections of Botox and Juvéderm. That’s because it works very well and it’s easy. After all, who likes shaving or waxing anyway? Laser hair removal is great on the underarms, face, bikini line, legs, back, and other areas of the body.

How it does away with the hair

The secret to getting rid of hair permanently involves two items — laser energy and the hair follicle. For permanent hair removal, the hair follicle’s bulb, bulge, and papilla must be destroyed. The vehicle is laser energy. The melanin in hair is the target for the laser energy, so different wavelengths are used for different hair colors. For this reason, laser hair removal isn’t as effective on light blond or gray hair because they have less melanin.

The laser energy travels down the hair into the follicle and the heat then damages the follicle so it can no longer produce hair. Sometimes, if the follicle isn’t fully disabled, hair growth function can return in a few months or more.

How many Diolaze treatments will I need?

Because laser energy only affects the hair follicles when the hair in the anagen/growth phase of the cycle, it takes multiple sessions to get the 85-90 percent permanent hair reduction patients seek. Still, the Diolaze XL requires fewer sessions due to its unique characteristics. We’ve found that most patients require 4-6 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
