Secret Santa Mommy’s Old Body Back

This time of year, there’s not much better than seeing the anticipation build in young children as the days dwindle toward Christmas. Subtle and not so subtle hints about gift ideas. Questions about “naughty” or “nice” possibilities. Searching in the typical hiding spots for yet un-wrapped treasures.

This stuff only happens when you’ve had kids.

But who said your figure had to be taken away by the Ghost of Christmas Past when you had those kids?

It’s true. Pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding take a serious toll on a woman’s body. Do the entire process again with a second or third child and extend those changes even more. Fortunately, a mommy makeover with Dr. Kearney can reverse much of what has happened to your figure. In fact, a mommy makeover can get back your old body and maybe then some.

Since a San Diego winter is a great time to have this combination of surgeries, let’s spend December’s two blogs getting into the details of a mommy makeover with Dr. Kearney.

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is simply a title for the combination of surgeries that specifically target the areas of the body impacted by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. At Dr. Kearney’s, our mommy makeovers usually involve a tummy tuck, breast lift with or without augmentation, and liposuction.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are uniquely hard on a woman’s body. The localized weight gain of pregnancy is so centralized the skin, muscles, and tissue of the abdomen are stretched to a degree that they cannot rebound to their former tautness. This leaves a stomach pooch that is basically untouchable with exercise. Often, stomach muscles have become separated and they cannot return to the center without surgery. The breasts also gain and then lose size and weight, which stretches the tissues and ligaments that attach the breasts to the pectoral muscles. Breastfeeding tends to reduce volume. Finally, the weight gain of pregnancy can leave pockets of unwanted fat that are quite resistant to changes in diet and exercise.

These are common characteristics of Dr. Kearney’s mommy makeover patients:

  • Your breasts have sagging, in extreme cases the nipples may point downward
  • Your breasts have lost volume and flattened
  • Most of your breast mass has gathered in the very bottom of the breasts
  • Your lower stomach has a permanent pooch
  • You have pockets of stubborn fat on the abdomen and possibly the thighs

Mommy makeover patients should have lost most of their pregnancy weight (should be within 10% of ideal weight) and be in overall good general health. Good candidates will need to have finished with breastfeeding for at least three months prior to having a mommy makeover. This allows the breasts to return to their normal cup size.

In December’s second blog, we’ll get into the surgeries that Dr. Kearney combines into his mommy makeovers. Are you interested in a mommy makeover? Call Dr. Kearney at (858) 677-9352 to schedule a consultation.
